Oh deep, deep joy. With the grandchildren in Largs this afternoon, saw a VX800 in the car park, and it was the one I traded in for the divvy years ago. He's fitted twin discs at the front, but that may be excusable because he seems to ride with a pillion passenger. How nice to see it still being enjoyed.

was sorting out my house today ready to put up the Christmas decs and came across this very old picture of my old BSA RGS with full dustbin fairing.
It had twin standard pipes instead of the Siamese and Goldie pattern pipe because my mother complained about the noise and waking her up at night when I came in from working at the local Caravan site bar, lol
I know roughly when it was taken around 1969 in Dereham Norfolk.....the baby on the seat is my niece, now about 47 years old.

would love to know where YNF 557 is these days, lol

Hi Neil.

Try the  DVLA  in Swansea.  (you might have to get a policeman friend to do it for you)   %)

you should be able to use the DVLA website to see if it still registered and taxed
https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s4

- came up not possible to find the details though.

Hi, You certainly went Scratching with those crash bars on the back. I made my first RGS in 1960 and then dumped the BSA frame and put the lot into a Manx Frame. Beautiful handling and stopping, alas I sold it and bought a house. Nemesis

This is the one bike i would give my right arm for i just love it.
John Ops wrong post.
Oldest bike I have is a 1960 Honda Benly CB92. I sometimes wonder if it's worth more that the £10 I paid for it back in 1972...

Yup, the six cylinder Hondas were quite a piece of work. I've got this 82 version in my shop licensed and ready to go........once the snow clears.

I started riding at 15, when you could legally do so.  A 50cc Mobylette.  I then progressed to a 175 BSA Bantam, then a BSA 350cc SS90.  My ultimate bike was my beloved 1960 BMW R60, single seats and indicators on the ends of the handlebars.  Keeping the R60, later had an R90S, then a K100, but the R60 remained special.  As the family arrived so did the Watsonian sidecar.  We toured all over Britain and much of Europe.  I reckon I must have done 500,000 miles between 1961 and when I finally hung up my helmet a few years back.  Wonderful days.  I am still a biker at heart.

 Nice selection of bikes.
I'm 65 and no intention of hanging up my helmet anytime soon. A 75 year old and myself are planning a trip west on old US 66 this spring.......on our bikes.

Best wishes for Route 66 John, I will admit to being envious of that.

I should of mentioned I used to race in the mid sixties, a Formula Bantam and a 50cc Mk6 Competizione Itom.

Road conditions here have steadily worsened, narrower lanes and ten times more traffic. I am only a couple of years older then you, but recognising my peripheral vision and reactions were not as sharp as they were I finally decided is was time to call it a day before some oblivious car driver with 200W stereo going full blast took me out.  Quit whilst I was winning.

Never raced bikes. I did cars on the rally circuit here and drag racing.
I have to agree on the traffic over there. I was over in 09 and it was overly busy even for car driving. i had thoughts of renting a bike before I went, but was glad i didn't when I got there. There are some great roads though, particularly in Wales.

A few years back I remembered seeing a Triumph Trophy going round the track at Brands Hatch between Barry Sheen and Kenny Roberts racing round the track, that memory stuck with me if I would get something British it would be a Triumph. Well many years later I own a 1966 Triumph Trophy TR6c these where exported to the states with high rise handlebars and smaller tanks amongst other bits it was the bike Steve McQueen raced in the 60's and nick named 'the desert sled' so after much seaching I found a bike imported it back here and restored it with a total nut'n'bolt rebuild. I found through the Triumph owners club the year it was exported and the state and dealer where it ended up I have now an age related number plate on it 'E reg' It's my summer toy and just love the ride of it I have been to the 'Ace' cafe many times on her when they have special days for period bikes she draws quite a crowd.

Lovely bike Tony.

I have the dubious distinction of both racing in the same race as Barry many many years ago when we were both racing clubman's, and also being run over by him!!! %% %% %%

I had taken a party of parents and a child who had been in my CDT class to the Earls Court Motor show about 1981/82 a little while after Barry had had his near death monumental crash, where they had bolted him together like Frankenstine's monster. The lad had won his age group in the BP Build a Car competition and we were on an all expenses paid trip to the Press day of the motor show...........

I was looking in awe at the Aston Martin Stand when I felt my foot being run over by something heavy...........looked down and it was Barry Sheene in his wheel chair...

He looked up at me and said" sorry mate...can't get used to four f******* wheels,............Mind you I'm not much f******* better on two!"........

we both howled with laughter, I shook his hand and off he scooted again.

what a great guy he was, lol

God bless him. {:-{ {:-{ {:-{

I've discovered the cure for very old bikers. . . A Boom 1600 injected Trike.
Stable, comfortable enoUgh for 300 miles nonstop.
Bit pricey, but it gets the wind in the hair again ( no helmet needed)
