what safety valve has it got have you a picture ? as the cheddar ones are very good and I have never heard a complaint, ill check the jet for you as it does not ring a bell that size.

Hi Pipercub,
I have had my Puffin Version 2 Vertical Boiler for about 11 years (since new) and it was fitted with No. 8 gas jet.  I have just  re-checked in the instructions and can confirm that (for mine) it is correct.  I bought a spare "just in case" and recently, because I suspected I had a blocked jet, swapped it.  The jet wasn't blocked, as it happened, what I did learn were two important things.
Firstly, read the instructions (the last time I fitted the jet was 10 years ago and, from memory, it was a simple job) and secondly, the instruction to thread seal the jet is important - it did not burn properly until I did!  After changing the jet I did not get the satisfying "pop" when the flame went down the chimney to the burner,  instead it burned nicely in the chimney - which very quickly got hot!!! It took me a frustrating hour to find that problem and less than a minute and two drops of thread-sealer to fix it. :embarrassed:

I have the 90 PSI  safety valve on my boiler but I have noticed that the top internal nut sometimes works loose and it vents off too early.  I suppose I could put some threadlock on this too but, as it fails safe (i.e. blows off at a lower pressure), I can live with inconvenience of having to re-set it.  Although I have mine set at 60PSI believe this is on the low side for this particular boiler.  Somewhere on this site I remember interetingly reading all about the sizes of the threads used on a Cheddar boiler.  If I can find it I will let you know where it is.
One day I may actually get round to fitting it (and the Gemini Engine) in a boat :}

Hope this has been of some help.

hi dave ,thanks for the reply ,ive just ordered a no 8 gas jet from cleveden steam and he confirmed what you said about the size incidentally he has a number of spare parts for cheddar engines /boilers which may be of interest to you, i will certainly take note of the thread sealer upon fitting,never would have thought of that one
