7.2 Li Pol batteries for 6v Decaperm
« on: October 26, 2009, 08:11:31 am »

 ;)
Can you electric gurus advise if it would be damaging to the a 6V decaperm motor to use 7.2 volt Li-pol batteries with an ESC (for lightness in planing hull).
Trying to avoid gel cells because of weight issues.

no a battery is a battery even if it was nuclear powered as long as it was only 7.2v it should be OK 1.2v is very little extra we run 8.4v 700bb on 19.2v it just revs a bit more.
Decaperm are a old design in motor so would not go much more they are a bit of a slogger  and not the most efficient and a lot of people remember them from old when they where the best about for models, but Churchill was still Prime Minister  then probably

Done it for the last three years with no problems.  Decaperms may be old but they are built like brick s**t houses. :-))

to give the hull some real umph I would replace the decaperm (a good-but heavy motor) with a 700bb.    :-))
