Hello all. Below are a few pictures from two recent fun float regattas. The regattas took place at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's, Maryland. The second was held in South Orange, NJ.

I like the second one down.  Is that a home made steam plant?

Yes, it is homemade - both boiler and engine. The hull is the Panatela as found in the book Steamboats and Modern Steam Launches. The fellow who built the model and power plant is from NJ.

Mo,

The torpedo boat was built by Steve Siegel of PA. He used a prototype Marten, Howes and Baylis hull and scratched built from there. It is powered by a Saito three cylinder plant. It is a beautiful model. Steve sold the model to fellow in the NJ area a couple of years ago who gets out to a number of the regattas here on the East Coast.  I'll post some larger pictures of it this evening.

Mogogear: Here are a few more pictures of Steve Siegel's torpedo boat

Vintagent: three guys that I know of here in the States have done models of the Panatela. One out in the San Francisco area and then another one in the NY area. Below are some pictures of the one from NY. This particular gent scratch builds all his models and uses coal as fuel. Beautiful work

Hi Kno3,

They are the slip eccentric reversing system- we have exactly the same engine design and reversing gear in SY Gondola- it freewheels on the shaftwhen the shaft rotates, but if pushed back it rotates the valve eccentrics 1/3 of a turn and so admits steam onto the opposing sides of the piston.

I've NEVER seen this acheived in model form before!!!!
