The pylon racers used to have a club 40 class, it was restricted to a 40 size engine and if I remember correctly it had to be a certain make and unmodified. Oops this is a model boat forum

Do you mean GT400 ? This is a class of fast electric boats based, I believe, on a model that George Turner used to sell. There is also a Club 500, this one based on a Model Slipway boat.
Hope this helps,
Barrie

What a pain, missed out on 18-30 holidays and now 10 years too old for Club 40 racing!

It is .40 cu in ic motors in a basic speed boat or cheap racing boat hull. There are a number of clubs throughout the UK who are (or have) encouraged it as a cheap way of starting boat racing.
I know it is currently practiced in Wales, the Midlands and the South coast (what's your location?)
Cheers

Thanks guy's,
This question was put to me by a third party and some how he got mixed up between club 40 and club 500, we've decided on the latter (he should stop drinking whiskey thought the day) thanks for your help.
