Originally it was meant to be the Plaudit

Recently (about 3 years ago) I bought a set of plans for the Paudit, I had built it once before from free plans in Model Boat magazine. I loved it back then and decided it would be a great idea.
Now the guy on ebay said they were 3/4" = 1', turns out he was a little bit off and the plans were smaller than they should be.
Having had my heart set on a 1:16 scale Medway tug I decided to customise it and make it my own, in the same scale. It is now the Lady Lou, named for SWMBO, which has pleased her and now I am allowed to spend on my fleet.

Here it is when I realised it was the wrong scale, and still Balsa.




Here is the start of my foray into styrene construction on what is now the Lady Lou.




Here is how she currently sits, awaiting a fine day for some more paint and the much needed electronics that have now been settled on.




The Plaudit build has also changed one more time since I have resized the plans and done more research, she will now be the Plashy.

There were plans for a river tug very like Plashy in MB a while ago - I think they were by Pottinger, for a tug called at varoious times "Black Boys/Falconbrook/Caspar C".FOUND it - Decenber 2007 MB, 1/20 scale free plan produces a mode 26"long displacing approx 26 lbs. I've probably got the plans somewhere.

I have the plans for the Plaudit, I have resized them to 3/4" = 1', and she just happens to be the sister ship to the Plashy, just a different colour scheme. The Caspar C is a great looking ship too, let me know how much you want for the plans if you are interested in selling them.

just found this post did you get a copy of the blackboys plan? a fellow mayhemer was kind enough to send me a copy, so more than happy to do the same if you have not got them sent you a personal message. regards

No I didn't get a copy of the Blackboy's plans, but then I have too many plans already. I have about 4 sets right now and I have 2 boats I am building from photographs.

Well spotted on the Leonie, I worked off the same pic you posted as it was one of the few that worked on the scale of the hull I had.

Well, after moving house and getting a room in the new one to be, as my wife has called it, my "man Cave" I have dusted off the Lady Lou and started work on her again. This boat needs to be finished so I can have at least one working.
I decided to have a try at hand botching some brass parts for her. Now you do have to remember that I don't have a workshop or any milling equipment. This is all done with a hacksaw, files and a cordless drill, soldered with a blowtorch and plumbers solder.
I have test fitted the parts and once I am through playing on the web I will be cleaning them up ready for the paintwork to be finished.



I made bollards, an exhaust, the tow bow and the light boxes are from styrene sheet and the lights are HO scale street lights.

Decided it was time to see how she looked on the water, and see how much ballast I was going to have to add.




She took on a slight list at one point and I thought I was heading for a swim.

She is looking good, but I think she looks a little soapy (heavy in the water) perhaps a bit less ballast to bring her head up a bit? Geo :-)) :-))

Oh and believe it or not Bro peter has actually towed our 16ft  Tanker around with his little plaudit (Winkle B)

I have to replace the battery I bought for her, it is a little too heavy .
The local electrical store has one half the size but unfortunately it is nearly twice the amps and price.

I would believe the Winkle B could tow the tanker.

Got to grab some tire rubber for the bumpers, cut some tread off a loader tire at a friends house. Used tire that was going to recycling, not one still on the loader.





Managed to set the battery box in place so now the battery sits about one inch lower and 3 inches further aft. This will help when it comes to ballasting as she should a little more level now. Picking up some lead shot for her this week so I get to test the ballast and see how much is still needed, 1/2 oz bags should do it I think.

Sorry to dig up a very old post but it is the original one about this boat.

I have finally got her ready to launch, now I just need to get to where the weather and my wife's and my days off working together.
It has taken too long to get to this point and now my wife is 100% sure I am not to launch without her there and a bottle of bubbly to go with it. Should be fun as we get to use a friends beach at the back of their house at one of the local lake communities.
Hopefully it will be soon and all will go well

That has put a smile on my face. This one was renamed the Lady Lou early on when I changed the design. Her name is LouAnn so it made her very happy.
The next one is already under construction and will be more than double the cost of this one and she has already said that is no problem. A rose by any other name. :-))

Best laid plans of mice and men. Was all set to launch tomorrow. Camera charged and disk cleaned off. All batteries for the boat ready. 3 year old grandbaby coming for a ride with us to watch as well. Her aunt forgot the carseat. No launch until Saturday now.
I guess it gives me more time to double check everything before the day lol

Got to launch the Lady Lou today, turned into a minor social event for the people by the lake. Going to have to download a video editor to work on the sound lol.
Had a slight issue with the drivetrain, the grub screws kept backing out so I ended up with a spinning motor and no go. I will flatspot both shafts so there is something to grip.
Apart from that I think it went quite well.
