plastic nuke boat kits?
« on: May 16, 2008, 07:23:17 pm »

I think I've made my mind up as to what to build for my return to sub building. I can't be doing with those free flooding holes on WW11 boats....been there, done that and made the mess. So, I'm thinking along the lines of another nuke boat...
Are there any plastic kits available of a decent size for r/c conversion of something along the lines of an Ohio or the Patrick Henry? That sort of thing...nice clean lines, none of that drilling of millions of slots in 1/4" thick fibreglass, a nice easy build in the front room.

Your assistance would be invaluable chaps, please....

Cheers,

Rich

The one that comes to mind is the Trumpter USS Seawolf SSN at 1/144.

Try Revell 's 1/200 scale "Andrew Jackson" Lafayette class SSBN.

The seawolf is the only decent sized plastic sub I can think of.  The Kilo is achievable.  You could also do the subtech albacore which is technically a plastic hull aswell.

Looks like an R & R Resolution, and also looks like it'll need a bit of work. Okay if you know what you are doing, but you might struggle a bit if you're new to the hobby.

I know of one very well-known RC sub manufacturer who had been lobbying hard for a 1/96 Skipjack but doubt that will ever see the light of day.
