I've just weighed her on the bathroom scales.  34 pounds with the flowcoat on.

Unfortunately I was advised to add a thickener and I made it too thick. Now it has dried it's reminiscent of the tide coming in,  frozen in time !!!  I shall be sanding for days to correct this, so no pictures for a while.   :((

Well all right then, here's what I have  so far. It's not as bad as first thought as it seems to have settled in.

Oh dear Ken......... {:-{ should I post over a few 6"x4" sheets of 120 grit....then 240 grit then up to 1200 W&D

Probably I should include 1000 ml of the OZ wetting water & that would help  %%  :-)) Derek

Hi Kenny B&Q sell 'green grit' sand paper made by 'Oakley' in the basic grades. It's more expensive but I've found it superior in heavier duty rubbing down than the usual cheaper stuff. It's very durable and appears to resist clogging and is more easily de-clogged with gentle use of a fine wire brush. It's good stuff. :-)

Thank you all for your kind comments. Had a chat with Bluebird today and he's sending me some Hankies.   8)    We have formulated a plan and I feel we might get through this.

I've left it for another day to harden further before the onslaught of gritty compounds and got on with some more of her features.  The vent tubes are completed and painted and the bow capstan and large bollard are now finished. I was ready to fix the painted railings when I was called upon to cut the lawns. That took the rest of my energy for today.  %)

Here's a novelty snap shot of the completed lifeboat R.I.B with outboard motor.   :D   The supports are wrong in that they go bow to stern and not across the deck as shown.

Ken you know that to float to its lines a 1/12 Severn should have an total weight of 25Kg 55 pounds.

Now  'That'  is very useful information. Thanks Johno.

I shall be removing a LOT of  'flow coat'  so hopefully it should slim down the old girl.  :-))

Hi John

I've been working on this Goliath all day and it looks a little better. Trouble is, every time I came out on the patio to dust off, 'Er indoors' shouted at me to keep away from the flowers. Dust everywhere. I spent most of my time with a face mask on. Had to 'Vac' the garage afterwards.  (never again will I venture into glassing!!)

On to the best part now.

I've got around to fitting the completed little parts onto the cabin.  The railings are in along with the pivoted sub cranes.   :-))   Now she's looking on her way up.

The hull only needs final smoothing (and filling again!!) before we can start on the spray paint, but I'm on wifie's "stop" while the fine weather is about.   ok2

Further good news is the arrival of the real Rubber for the crash bumpers. You may have noticed the cut plastic tube had already been stripped off. The rubber ones will be fitted after the paint job to ensure a precision line around the top of the hull.

The double prop Bow thruster has arrived and the holes in the hull will be cut soon to accommodate it.  I shall have to work under the sealed fore deck, but then 'Why make it easy eh!'

Going in top gear now as she will be at the Mayhem Bash whether she sinks or not.   :-))

Today I made a crane

Step one was to trace the drawings for an outline of the crane. This was then cut around the edge and used as a template.

Step two involved cutting the four separate parts into their correct dimensions in duplicate and joining them with side pieces to make long box structures.

Step three involved fitting them together with pivot pins and making the hydrolic arms from two brass tubes which slide inside each other.

I have sprayed the crane with primer and it's now ready for some Orange paint.  (I've run out, so this will be tin seven !)

The Hull is now rubbed down as smooth as I can get it and we have applied the first coat of primer.

Beginning to look the part now, except for the latest crew to join, who looks a bit muscle bound and Big.  :}   I shall keep looking for a correct size gentleman to drive her.

The Orange paint is in and the crane is drying at the moment.  I have made the life rings and sprayed them also. Pictures to follow.

Hiya Dicky.

Yes, they are superb and would grace my 'little' craft a treat, and look the BIZ.

I'm still saving up for them, only I keep seeing other figures at a pound each and get tempted. I mean to say that four of them would exceed the price of my home built hull.  %)

Come on Ken, you're not a Scot.

They would enhance and add value to your master piece :-))

Have to agree Ken - George Turner figures take some beating - even if I did berate him at Shepton Mallet for taking away our fun in painting them  :((
Still, unpainted figures are promised in the future, and we can still repaint if we feel the need  :-)
Will talk on Sunday

Plodding on Ken, it seems to take forever, two and a half days to make 3 guns.

Oh for some decent drawings.

Am still posting the build .

The crane is all finished and assembled to the boat. It fits onto a empty cotton reel lovely.

I have it bolted to the deck so that it can swivel around. Life is too short to motorise it !!

I've found curtain rings which are ideal for my lifebelts.

I painted them red and wound some white rope around them to simulate the effect.

I was studying the hull and found a few dimples which caught the light,  so it was out with the 'wet' n' dry for another smoothing exercise.

It really is becoming tedious trying to get a clean straight finish on this hull.  My good lady says ' enough is enough' and who's going to look anyway.  Mmmm.

You will notice I have fitted the Raboesch Bow Thruster 30/33mm x148mm, at a cost of £69.95.   %)    I hope it turns this heavy beast around.
