i think this is a great tip

Ok so you are on with another boat and your ready to slap (in my case) some paint on .
You get down your jar of garden green and try as you might you can't release the lid . now rather than face total embarrassment by asking SWIMBO to open it for you heres a little tip i discovered tonight .
GENTLY and i mean gently warm the lid of the reluctant jar (NOT TOO MUCH AS THE GLASS WILL CRACK) whilst rotating it , i used a blow lamp but a heat gun will do. not too much now as you have to hold onto the lid and the jar and give it a twist and hey presto it's open .

Oh the jar lid gripper that didn't work at first , but i didn't need it after

Turn the jar upside down and submerge the lid in hot water.  Works for me.  :-))

That's what I do, as for the SWIMBO. I just say it's my arthritis. But usually if a jar gets to this stage I will through it out because as the lid releases it drops all the hard paint into the pot and end up with lumps through the paint job.

the thing is once you have released the initial grip the paint has on the lid and jar you can then release them apart easily without dropping any bits in the paint.
works for me.

And don't forget to wipe the glass thread before replacing the lid and it should be allright next time.
