A couple of general comments

At the end of the day, an internet forum is not an English essay. %)
Spelling and grammar are generally regarded as not important when posting in such forums. :-))
The grammar used when speaking is rarely 100% correct, and that is the style of most posts.   ok2

It sadens me sometimes to see somebody put a releveant point of view (especially in a discussion), and the only rebuttal made concentrates on spelling and grammar.
As if to say, 'you are obviously an ignoramus who cannot possible contribute intelligently to this discussion because you made a spelling mistake'. This to me shows that there is perhaps no real rebuttal, and things have resorted to the equivalent of name calling.
A bit like telling Einstein that his theory of relativity would not stand up, if his work had containted spelling errors and/or poor use of grammar.

mmmmmm DickyD says.... "Just think you are great Derek, you Aussies don't even speak English"

 {-) {-) {-) {-)  how may times do I need restate

Our proud Irish convict forebears were sent to OZ in the first fleet with copies of the transcripts from Ye Olde Bailey :-))

a) when you view these transcripts...it is clear that the text is 1/16 Germanic....certainly not English as is currently offered

b) at school in OZ we were provided with a copy of "The Oxford Concise Dictionary" - Australian version
c) at school in OZ we were also provided with a copy of "Websters American World Dictionary"  - Australian version

d) the brilliance of the Australian education system in 1964 adopted the British model in metrication……….[which essentially was a good idea]

e) in 1969 I attempted applied heat II in Si during day lessons & Imperial during night lessons ---- talk about the British DINGBATS controlling the education %%

Later in life after Bill Gates enters the scene we find our PC defaults as

f) PC principal language = English
g) keyboard = English/American
h) principal defaults = US/UK

So all of these were small conquests…… as we from OZ are tough…we eat garlic + red ned …….Derek  O0 {-) {-) {-) {-)

OK...& thanks TT.......for the correction..... %) I am here in Adelaide this week & relied on my memory of the principal language in Wollongong in Windows XP system as  f) PC principal language = English

Clearly you are correct with this new fangled VISTA PC....the default is .......principal language = American English  .....

When I was @ GID we saw naval vessels...gray naval vessels .....grey steel blue vessels ....yes Russian....American....NZ.......French....& all of differing "'greayie"" tones ..............+ all of the rest....I would like to think we could all laugh at the latest postings & reflect of the .........dis.....similar paint jobs .........as are our postings ......Derek  :-))

Hi Derek

I wasn't trying to correct you. God forbid.
Just pointing out the irony that there is not just one English, there are many. %%

I don't know if he was the first to say it, but Churchill (I think) said, 'America and Britain, two nations divided by one language'.

I got turned down for a job many years ago because my english was not good enough  O0
Being rather miffed by this, I corrected the fifteen or so spelling mistakes in the letter and sent it back to them.
