The attached pic is of the 'as supplied' prop for the Trumpeter USS Seawolf...notice the complete lack of bite to the blades, the prop is as flat as the proverbial...well, it's flat.

Any ideas as to how it could modified for use...obviously this would involve twisting the blades without them snapping off at the root, but how could this be done? The alternative is to have one custom made at a frightening price, or use an 'ordinary' prop, but I would like to use this one if at all possible.

How about a judicious application of a warm hair dryer at the root of the blades and then a small twist to each blade?

I guess that with a large number of blades you do not need much off set.

Have a look at a high quality prop to give you some idea of how much twist to introduce.

That's an idea Roger...just hope it doesn't melt! But, it's worth a try for sure...

would it not be wiser to test it before setting about it with a hairdrier?

Fear not, Essex old chap...I'll give the hair dryer a go on some scrap pieces of sprue first!!

Take it slowly, a little heat and see if they bend and stay bent. If not a little hotter.

Once you have bent some and want to proceed to the next one, wrap a damp cloth over the ones already done.

If you get in a mess you may need to buy the proper job but at least you will have tried!

Well, it worked to a point Roger, but the plastic blades are so thin, they just bend all over the place once on a shaft and running in water.

It was worth a try though...I suppose now it's onto the Prop Shop website and prepare my plastic flexible friend for a nasty shock...
