I'm posting these pictures on behalf of Neil, who had trouble uploading them. He'll explain the rest.

Hi Niel,

Two lovely boilers there- the Mendip is great steamer- steady and fast. What waterfeed arrangements do you have?

The secod is a real beauty- have you made it? The proper steam dome just sets it off a treat. However, although aesthetically very pleasing and true to scale though the funnel is I have my reservations as to it's drafting capabilities being so short and on a return flue too- have you found this?

Hi Greg,
Firstly let me thank Calin for uploading the photos. I've been having no end of trouble with my pc, even viewing photos, and videos on this machine. Calin suggested a site  to help there too, and..... DA Da!! It was the software from my Samsung phone that was causing me all of this trouble.

To the boilers;

I have just used the timber lagged boiler for entertainment thus far. Driving the odd static engine. It steams very well to me, but, don't forget to read my signature, that is for real. I know a lot about some things, a little about a lot of things, and steam comes into the latter topic. Chimney/funnel lengths are not my strong suit. I had thought of making a longer one though, just for the aesthetics. The Mendip looks great with that tall bloke, so, I thought I'd do something similar.
The Mendip has just been used, thus far for fun too. So, I haven't got the feedwater things set-up yet. You would know as well as me how short those "Steam ups" have been with it. I'm working on it. I am going to try a water injector that I bought a long time ago, and never got to experiment with it. If that fails, I'll use the hand pump, alone for a while, until I get a Stuart steam pump I have here linked up. I have some PM-R clack valves fitted now, and I use their globe valves, and fittings extensively too. They look very nice scale wise I think. I'm altering a couple to flange fittings at the moment, which look even better, but..... let's see if I can do it first.
All in good time, no rush.

Cheers, Neil.

I think I should say that the Blackstaff photo, is what's inside the Mendip. A fair bit of bending and silver soldering, eh? (I wish... Oh how I wish....)
I'll try to attach some photos I took this arvo, of the Clacks etc., the bits attached.
I'll try another boiler too, if I can't get it, I will give up forever, the 5" Test Boiler.
Is there a way to "Unattach photos if you make a mistake"? I have to close the window, but, I'll bet there is a way.
I have resized the photos, down to something, unlikely to be able to be seen. Apparently, that's the requirement. It has taken me 45 minutes of mucking around, and, I don't think it's worth it. They are only a couple of boilers, and maybe egines to come.

Well, here goes. If it doesn't work, I'll never post another photo, ever!

Cheers to all, Neil.

Well... I did it.

Did you check out the Blackstaff copper bending, silver soldering etc?
Nick M could do that in his sleep I reckon, but.... I'm told a young lady, buy the name of Helen Verall (Spelling), was the boiler maker in this instance. I have no proof, but the advice of a very knowledgeable friend.

I forgot to say that the tall boiler is, (as I found out at a Model Engineering Show, recently), a 5 inch Test Boiler. The wine bottle is not the fuel, it's to show the relative size, as is the Stuart #1.

Cheers. Neil.

The Mendip inners, although looking impressive are actaully fairly simple- you just need a decent jig to make sure the coils are identical.

You wasnt to see true boilermaking skill look at your test boiler- rivetting, coppersmithing, close proximity drilling and soldering and high surface area to volume ratio- that is true craftsmanship.

Helen Verall rings a bell, I'm just trying to think where from- perhaps i've seen her name in Model Engineer.

Thats a lovely No1 you've got there too- you going to put it in a boat...?

Difficult keeping track when you're asking the same questions on two different postings Neil.

Added to a post on boilers but was confused, THIS was the person I meant to endorse, It's the Chedder connection.

Reply to Gondolier 88,

The #1 is going into a small car, home built, all steam, of course, to run around at Steam Rallies. A home built boiler, working great so far. (I'm still here ain't I?)  %%

I'm pleased someone found Helen. If you have a Cheddar boiler, look for the letter "V" on it. That means this young lady did the boiler making.
Has anyone tried doing this? The same radius of many pipes, and heating them at a "similar" time? Silver soldering them into 2 different pipes per side? Yeah, I have, and what a waste of copper that was!
I'll leave it to the professional boiler making folk on this forum.

I have heaps of charts, to convert between, fractions, decimals, metric, even the American way of their numbers. If anyone wants them, please say so.

Neil.

Neil, where would that V be located on Cheddar boilers? I haven't noticed it before.

The "V" is not in any particular place, according to my information Calin.
