Caldercraft Peggy

Hello!
I just got an attractive offer for an unused Caldercraft (or rather Jotika) kit of the steam drifter Peggy, which is no more in production I guess. Does anyone have any experience with this kit?
Actually I was planning to build Danny Boy, but Peggy might be a good alternative though I don't know very much about this kit.
I would appreciate hints and tips that help me to come to a decision... Thanks!

Hi Livesteam
I have built both Peggy and I am building Danny-boy at the moment and they both are nice kits.
They both are 1:24 scale Peggy is a bigger hull it is wider and has the bilge keel's moulded in.
The Danny boy to my mind is a neater looking hull it looks a bit more in proportion but you have to add the bilge keel's Yourself.
Both sail very well and both have a fiber glass superstructure provided.
The fittings in both kits are first class.

Hope this helps It is only my opinion.

I am building Danny Boy because I sold my Peggy and regretted it ever since.

Some time ago I built a Peggy for a friend and fitted a Saito twin cylinder steam engine The size of the hatches did not make it easy to work on once the deck was on so make sure you do as much as you can before closing the hull in. I remember I thought the hull was a bit flexible but this was an early example. The superstructure and fittings were very good. Make sure you reinforce the keel area with fiberglass and brace the front of the prop shaft There was a magazine article about building her back in the mid 90's, I will see if I can find it over the weekend. A nice looking boat on the water and even a small steam plant or electric motor will drive well. I am sure you will enjoy building and sailing her, Ian.

Thanks Ian! If it's the Model Boats article with a review of Peggy you mentioned: I just found it in my archive.

I have not found my copy yet but I am sure it had a picture of Peggy on the cover. Is this the one you have found? Cheers, Ian.
