Gel Coat
« on: April 16, 2010, 10:57:53 pm »

Hi,
    Racing my yacht over the weekend and another boat hit me broad side on it's took a 10mm piece of gel coat out of the surface of the hull can anybody tell me how to repair it.
Normally I would fill it with an isopon filler and respay the damaged area but somebody told me I can buy gel coat resin add some colour and fill the boat with no need of repainting can somebody give me advise how to do this correctly leaving a nice smooth finish  {:-{

just go to your local boat chandlers or search on the web, there is a repair kit that we used in the boat building trade
it comes as a two pack one gel coat the other hardener. mix togeather as any other two pack and apply to a cleaned, dry, if possible scraped out damaged section and once it's dry and hard you can cut it back with 000 gauge wet and dry paper until you cannot see it any more.
I have done this on million pound sunseekers and the customer could not find the repair afterwards.
