With the Bismarck finished had a look around and went for the Yamato 1/250 by DeAgostini must have a masochistic streak but gone for it in 11 issues. All ready got parts 1,2,3,4, had problems with the first 2 parts warpet ore missing but got that sorted so hear is my log of the Yamato.First the bis that where not up to standard mostly it was the wood parts                                    as you can see the base is 2 different thicknesses and 1 of the bulk heads is bent beyond use but the powers that be have re issued them so the build started    with cutting out the port holes and windows on the Maine tower                                                this took several days and 3 or 4 broken needle files and sore fingers but got them dune. one important part not to forget is to drill out the to holes for navigation lights them the 2 parts put to gether their AR quite a few peaces to it and all cast metal. It is off a good quality so far  that is it for this time tyred to do to n much at first attempt and the Post went kaput so will be back later TTFN . :-))

sum times when you mix resin by its self  it dos not set properly and you get a sticky residue on top if mixing sumthing in it helps get rid of the sticky stuff had a lot of problems sum time ago got the tip from sumone in OZ and it seams to work have not had much trouble since doesn't have to be baking soda but it mixes well the resin is from Halfords( Davids fiber glass resin)

This is just a suggestion but I would paint nothing  just yet as there is a lot of sanding and filing to go you could end up with paint that is so thick it will cover the fine detail .J.J on his build has all ready found out it is only to essay to mess your paint up. In the build  instructions they tell you to but think they this ship will go to with out a hitch well it will not to get the base to fit I have had to do a lot of filling as there was a gap of around 1mill between the main body  and the bass.  Paint the small things like binos but do not put them on keep them safe till the control tower is  built. I have and regretted it. Knocked sum bits off  so not infallible photos to cum of the bits I am on about

Before I start just got to say this is going to be won impressive ship. In my last I had a problem and a bit of a rant this is the part that got to me                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              And this is y I say do not paint yet as all this has to be blended in hence spoling your paint                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           a befroe and after sanding                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    This is y I think this will be a impressive  model

Can not do much more as still have not got[cursing] [cursing]  MY BUILD E MAIL YET [cursing]

back for agane with more fileing. Parts 1,2and 4 on page 58 1.2. Are  the thinnest part of the bridge base and the small part 4.  that has to go on top have a faire bit of fileing to get a good fit                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      And after all the sanding and file work nice and  flat

The vents for this are etched brass and of good quality on putting them to gether the large grills on the front have to be bent to shape on my first one i forgot and had to do it again. I soldered mine mainly to get the practice the shaping of the grills is achieved by rolling a round rod screwdriver or smiler will do on the bit to be shaped this will cause  it bend the more peruser you use the grater the bend                                               i think the next is the photo that has gone astray in my last post        to cut the photo etched grill selo tape the back plats no to it then cut round them

Looks like you've made a very good job of the soldering work on the superstructure so far. My soldering skills haven't progressed much beyond that needed to solder electrical bits together, that's why I usually rely on superglue/CA for gluing fine detail parts in metal  {-)

What metal is the superstructure made of? Looks like zinc alloy (same as used in diecast toy/model cars etc.). It'll certainly add a lot of topweight, given how bulky and tall Yamato's superstructure is.

yes it will be heavy but think i can get over it there is a lot of the hull under water will have to put a lot of ballast in her and may have to put on a false keel the metal could be the same as used in cars that i leave to the( drips under pressure) IE experts
