I've just had a look and I thought that I had this magazine but no, has anyone got a copy I can borrow?

Martin

I have a copy complete with plan that I will bring along to Wicksteed (assuming I make it in one piece)

Have I piqued your interest in this wee ship then Martin?  :-))

Getting there slowly but surely. The i.d. number is just temporary, until I can get some decent vynyl stickers for her.

I'm in the process of re-painting the lower hull,as I feel that the red I used was just too vibrant. I'm currently re-doing it in a brick red shade, which shouldn't look quite so garish to the eye. I've also built a rather crude anchor winch, which I know won't look anything like the real thing, but it should hopefully give the right impression of one. Like I said in an earlier post, this ship just needs to look the part, she doesn't need to be too accurate, which I don't think I'm capable of yet anyway.

I'm going to do away with the anchor winch and go with two capstan winches instead, which seems to make more logical sense than my idea.

Modified foredeck fittings, navigation lights recessed into leading edges of bridge, and 2nd coat of brick red paint below the waterline.

Some more pics from today. In the vid that I'll post later,a bad connection left her without power, and at the mercy of the wind.

Well now, this is embarassing, filming your boat, when a duff connection leaves you powerless to aid your stricken boat. I've since replaced the ESC with another one,and she works ok again. I'll really need to change over all my connections to Deans plugs, rather than rely on the vagaries of the Tamiya plugs.

I definitely recommend Deans plugs  O0. I had a similar problem to you about 4 years ago while sailing in the Lane Cove River, Sydney. The boat drifted way up stream for about an hour until my son was able to obtain a rowing boat from a friendly boat hirer. When the boatman saw the model, he would not charge my son for the rowing boat.

The problem proved to be a faulty connection, so I fitted Deans plugs in all my boats and have had no further trouble.

Your boat looks great on the water, Dreadstar, well done  :-))

Thank you Peter,I'm just glad that she's turned out so well. It would be interesting to see what sort of a job one of you pro's can make of it. Personally,I think my one looks sharper than the one in the article, but I may well be looking through rose coloured glasses, don't you. Still,at least I've proved to myself that I can build something that sails quite well. Now to decide, once she's been finished off, just what my next project will be,though I'm drawn to GG's semi-scale WWII U.S.S. Ripley. That might be quite a nice little ship to try next.

I'm no pro, Dreadstar, I'm still in the Intermediate class. The pros are the likes of Bluebird, DickyD, Tug Kenny and Bryan Young, to name just 4 of many on this forum. Some of the modellers on Mayhem have been involved in the hobby for much of their lives, whereas I only started in 2004 and I'm still on a steep learning curve.

It has been said that experience is not making the same mistake twice - if that's so, then I'm a slow learner  :embarrassed:

The Ripley should make up into a nice little model. It was interesting to read Glynn Guest's comment that he tried to incorporate a prototypical "heel" into its design, but it proved to be too stable.

I'm an even newer start than you then,I only started on boats last July. I'll admit, that the heel of the corvette caught me a bit off guard when I first tried her out,but she straightened out afterwards.A good few nervous moments I can tell you,but I've got a handle on her quirks now,and you can throw her into a tight turn without any worries,as you can see in the vids. I've now got the anchor chains in place. I've ordered up ladders, stantions, anchors, bollards, and ariels for her which will take about two weeks,in order to finish her off.

I was never really a large scale modeller, spending 36 years playing miniature wargames before moving onto R/C cars in 2006,then boats in 2009. Modelwise,I was scratchbuilding spaceships for Irregular Miniatures, over 100 different designs, but I burnt myself out doing it. A couple of examples:-(The first ship was only made for myself)

I'm getting there slowly but surely. I really don't know how you lads have got the patience to do miles of handrails, what I've done so far,is beginning to drive me nuts.Still,I think that it's improving the look of my little corvette, especially now that I have all the remaining fitments that I need.  :-))

I've finally cut out and painted her characteristic freeing ports, and added the warning labels to the sides of the guns. The 1/72nd figures aren't painted as well as I used to be able to do,middle aged eyesight and all that, but they don't look too out of scale. They'll do until I can get hold of some decent 1/96th figures. Anyway, here are some current pics of her prior to having the repainted sections varnished. I've still to rig the mast for the signal and pennant flags and buy a Ghana navy ensign for her, then I think I'll be finished.

DOH.....A bit of a Homer moment there I'm afraid,it's not the Ghana flag that I require,it's the Nigerian flag. She's the NNS Otobo(F82), sistership to the NNS Dorina(F81). I haven't a clue where i got Ghana from.  :embarrassed: I've ordered up the flag as well as a Rab 25mm 3-blade brass prop(type 1),which with a little luck will slow her down appreciably,to something closer to reality, unlike the warp speed that she's capable of just now.  ok2

Does anyone know where I should fly the flag from,or do I need to add a jackstaff to the aft deck?

Now fitted with a Raboesch(type1)25mm 3-blade brass prop. These two video's show just how maneuverable she really is. The first one is of normal ahead running, and the second one is of her going astern.
