Hello,
I don't know how I missed this one, but glad to be accepted here.

I've been a keen model boat builder for longer than I should remember.
I have had model boats for over fifty years and made a few for clients too.
In fact my first professional job was when I was 18. A model of an Essex sand barge obtained through the now defunct Thames Ship Lovers and Ship Model Society (whatever happened to them?)

My main interests are in small craft, old speedboats and record breakers, inshore and inland cruisers.  I also have a love of the old kits that we all started with...Aerokits, Veron, Frog, etc. and the period bits to put in them.

I would like to propose a "Vintage Model Boat Society" or something along those lines to cater for these old models and their enthusiasts.
Is there such a thing already perhaps?
Something along the lines of the Society of Antique modellers which is so big in the model aircraft world.  Only without the suggestion that we modellers might ourselves be antiques

Really, I worked with some modelmakers from La Belle france in Germany and they were the most laid back guys you could wish to take tiffin with!  And those hours were not entirely an exageration!
They were, though, superb modelmakers!

I do hope to find some other vintagents on here.  I make no apology for nicking the name from Motor Sport magazine, of blessed memory.  (Yes, I know it still exists, but not as we know it Jim)

It's something I've often thought about but never really had the time to set anything up, I think there's a guy on here who was in the process of setting up a yahoo group - not sure if it ever materialized?

There's also a dodgy geezer on here who's set up a website dedicated to the Keil Kraft "Eezebilt" models & I'm sure he'll be along shortly...

Perhaps this site could create a section devoted to the subject??

Aside from that - have you ever visited the "On the Wire" website? http://www.onthewire.co.uk/index.htm it's primarily concerned with tethered boats / cars & is regularly updated.

Hi Vintage, this could get confusing!

I was told by a client on Tuesday that there is supposed to be some kind of vintage model boat society, but it may be that they are tin toy lovers.  Nice, but not a broad enough church.

As you say, perhaps Martin would consider a sub section on here that could cater for the Aerokits, etc. Junkies amongst us.

The round the pole people are so very specialised but would still be very welcome if their stuff's old enough.  I worked for a chap who reckons he invented the sponson on model hydros and took the records in the fifties to prove it. His boats were in the ill-fated National Power Boat museum last I heard.  That establishment has been shut down in favour of a load of mud huts around it and nobody seems to know where all the exhibits have gon or are going. Amongst the models were all Karslake's hydros, some others and a collection of old outboard model engines.
I wonder if Rachel (his widow and mother of the newly celebrated Jo Wood)even knows the shabby place has been trodden on by the local council?

Just as well I took my pictures and measurements of Miss Britain III when I did before it was sheepishly given back to the Stick and String Centre in Greenwich!
Where did the dodged up Miss England go after its Freebody's wash and brush up, I wonder?

Welcome to the mad house ...Sanity is a hinderancy here....  Nothing wrong with the old sludge pipes... I spent time on the old "A's and T's" when they still had a 4.5" in the guntower...
