connection details for TWO PIECE (lengthwise) Hulls.
« on: May 31, 2010, 07:42:22 am »

;)Hi has anyone developed some effective joint arrangements for large hulls
My model HMS Gambia in 1:48 would be around 3900mm long so thought is to make two pieces and join on water or before launching.
Working on the principle that most things have been done by people on these pages before so...any ideas appreciated.
thanks

Remember seeing many years ago, a metal hulled fire tender that was joined in the middle. Strong bulkheads and a rubber sealing strip between screwed joint.

Is'nt that huge HMS Kent made by the Cygnets members in several sections?

Go take a look around http://www.cygnetsmbc.com/hms_kent_project/pictures/build-gallery-1.html there's loads of information on the build there.

Another option to look at the Bolger Folding Schooner. This was a full size boat designed to fold to fit on a small car trailer.
