Cost of running gear set.
« on: January 10, 2007, 09:17:48 pm »

Can someone explain to me why Fleetscale's running gear set for a type 23 is £104? Just seems like a total rip off, sorry!

What do you get for your £104?

Shafts x 2, props x 2, rudders x 2. Nothing to suggest it should be nearly twice as much as another type 23's supplier though.

Have a look at George Sitek website  - much cheaper and SUPERB quality.

I do agree with using George Sitek.
It was only about £70-00 for my 1/72 Type 21 Frigate ans she got 2 sets of "A" frames.

Fleetscale's advert for running sets, (click on the link for Type 23 Norfolk then running sets) specifically state 'Running sets do not include motors and couplings. They must be purchased separately.'

Hi all,

When you actually look at what you just bought for £100 + - I best your first thoughts were that you could have made them yourself by prefabbing them out of ready-to-run stock and some bits of brass tubing off the shelf?  Ive done this a few times and just bought off the shelf props because, when you think about it, they spend most of their life underwater and who notices if they are the right shape/etc.

the only time "Exact scale" underwater bits are needed is if you are being scrutinised by what some call "rivet counters"  if it works, that'll do for me! as far as i see it, if they cant see it, they wont even notice.  general public would probably be none the wiser :)

(example are the rudder for my sydney star and Neptun kits - should be graupner kit units, there actually Robbe - do I care? NAH!!).

try Propshop, I think they make shafts, and they're reasonably cheap.
