I have a peatol lathe, which is great, but it has no leadscrew, so, while thinking about how to add one, I thought I would think about a power feed for it as well.

Now, the purpose of this post, is to ask if anyone (FLJ ?) knows of a dc motor speed controller that could be used with a speed control knob rather than with rc, then it could be fitted to the lathe control box.

I think the most common thing to do with lathe controls is fit a stepper motor (+ controller) to them. You can then connect them to a PC and get a CNC system.

Yeah, I have seen that option, but I cant think I would ever need cnc on my lathe, maybe on the mill but thats another story.

I really just want a simple way of improving the lathe and the level of finish.

these two have things that will do you, but think about a stepper motor and a driver, there is someone who does a complete hand held unit that you can dial in a distance etc and it will not be much dearer and have you part way to cnc if you ever decide to go that way.

Thanks for those, the onestep looked promising until I found it has been discontinued, I have mailed to ask if there is a replacement.

I wonder why they still have it on there site I saw it last year on a stand at Harrogate and it looked good there are several others like it , ill find a few links

 Cos you din't know where to look, but at least you tried to find them.

 An American mate I made through Skype was amased when asking me about a piece of engineering information he needed took a few minutes at "My End" to find as he had been trawling for ages. Difference is, having retired from a carreer in engineering with a "Smattering" of electronics, having in the past had to find things "The Hard Way", with the now simplicity of T'internet, if I don't know where to look I've had many wasted years.

  Aren't "My Favourites" great??

 PS, Vindscreen Viper motors are good power units for feedscrew drivers.

Being a non retired engineer working in power generation, I thought I would know what to search for

Had a reply about the onestep controller. They discontinued it earlier this year, not enough interest in it. Also, he said his programmer broke and was expensive to replace.
