Cheddar Proteus Boiler Chimney
« on: June 26, 2010, 03:30:50 pm »

Hi folks, can anyone point me in the right direction or even have one spare a Chimney to fit the Proteus boiler as supplied by Cheddar.
I have just aquired a brand new unit but with no chimney, I think it was supplied White enamel but not sure.
Any help gratefully received.

Thanks for now

I can't be sure if it will be of any use to you as I won't be home for a couple of months to measure it up but I do have a Hemmens Richmond Flue.  If you don't find anything we can talk again when I'm home.

Thanks for the replies folks, the boiler itself is due to arrive sometime next week hence my enquiry for the flue so i can hopefully marry them both up and get her running.
I think i will also need a new sight glass but not sure of size so again if anyone knows let me know then i can order some correct size glass for it.

Thanks BB, Peter is going to measure up his and post info back then we'll have a better idea. I believe the last Proteus I had which was several years ago now came with the white enamel
flue and looked very smart indeed so i hope to get one to match.

Thanks again

OK my boiler was no3 off the line well boiler number 000003 so it was an Early one on the day they where realised to the public, the size is

28mm outside pipe x 110 long with two slots for supperheater and a pipe for engine plus superheater cut outs 15mm  x 4mm

and yes they seem to be stoved , I dont use this one at the momentas I have an extended one for in a funnel.but will be in the future, it was the Gemini that came un painted

i thought these were 28mm pipe- if you know a friendly plumber he will have ann offcut somewhere- cut to your desired length and slot into the flue.

Thanks Peter-Greg, I do believe i have some standard 28mm pipe so I hope that will fit when it lands. I can get it stoved no problem so if it fits then great otherwise i will look or have to find one of the shelf already painted.
Enjoy the match.

Cheers

When I made the funnel for the last plant I made for someone I used 28mm pipe with plastikote cream paint painted straight onto the copper- thouroughly cleaned first of course- we've had no problems with it so far- not even little scratches, and it cures to the highest temperature it comes into contact with- so the first time you fire the boiler be careful after that you shouldn't (we havn't) have any problems.

Or for a completely different approach you could metal-blak it- no-one seems to do this very often in model boat circles, but it's big in model engineering circles, it looks very smart, and with a bespoke polished brass funnel top it looks so tidy- traction engine chinmey like.

No I don't i'm afraid, if you PM me I can knock one up for you if you wish?

Can do a solid brass that sits on the top to look likke cast, or I can spin a sheet, though if your not having a huge flair I would just machine one from solid.
