TVR1A advice
« on: June 30, 2010, 08:02:59 pm »

Had a great day out at the recent show at Doncaster ,thanks to all who made it possible.
Looking for next project and bits to finish projects already started and bought a TVR1A steam engine, lovely piece of engineering.
Have read manual and started to build it but have come up with a query .
When building the steam chest it says the rectangular cavity on the valve must touch the face on the cylinder,it does touch but not tight up against the face.
Is this correct  ,and steam pressure creates a seal.

Hi Randy,

It should be a sliding fit, yes.

You would find a lot more help if you post in the 'steam' section.

Hi Greg
Thanks for the info but it more than a sliding fit,it has about .025" clearance.
Is it possible to change this to the steam secton or just start another post in the steam section.

Hi Andy,
The face on the valve that touches the cylinder has the very shallow recess. This face should be lapped, as should the cylinder port face. Are you sure that your not trying to place the valve on back-to-front. The steam pressure in the steam case seals the valve against the cylinder.
