colour scheme?
« on: July 07, 2010, 05:43:48 pm »

Well. I'm finally ready to start top coating the cabin cruiser. (did I say how much I HATE painting >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( )

But now I dont know what colour! So, any suggestions for a 40", 50 year old cabin cruiser with teak decking?

i quite fancy that very dark blue that big sailing yacths have, but it might not look right.
What colours were 1940's boats painted?

Hi,

Pretty much to a 'T' cream or white with a black waterline and red or green under the waterline, at that time Navy blue was still pretty much the reserve of retired Navy toffs and royalty.

The odd black ones were known with a green waterline and red under waterline.

cool pics! Mine was painted the same as the bottom one but I fancied a change.
i never saw a black one before, and I had actually thought of green below the waterline.
Food for thought here, any more for any more????

well, I've chosen chocolate brown for below the waterline, mid green for above, and cream for the upper works. Thats all I remember of my childhood, those 3 colours wherever i went. {-) O0

BUT< I have a problem now as I am spraying these colours and they are acrylic. Hoe the hell do you sand down acrylic? wet and dry just clogs with great lumps of paint. I've never worked with this stuff before. >>:-( >>:-( <*< <:(
