Started my HMS Javelin build today.

It is an old kit and drawing with an up to date instruction book so it will be like my HMS Amethyst build, interesting.

More as I go on.

Seem to have chopped a bit off in the photo, will make a better job next time.

Hi Pete (Klunk) before stating any odds, you don't happen to have some inside information do you?

I was thinking along the lines of any important parts that may have gone astray, (for a while!) I'm informed that a good betting man always knows which stable the horse came from!

Today I made a rudder to replace the white metal one and fitted it.

I fitted the propshafts and the servo for the rudder.

Have still to make the A frames for the shafts.

I also drilled out loads of portholes. [picture to blurred to post].

Today I made and fitted the missing A frames to the propshafts.

Too hot to do much today, not a good day for me.

Took a photo for Ken of the whole boat.

A nice size. Room for plenty of detail. Can't wait to see the armaments.

yes, it was hot here as well today. I actually watched my paint drying. Most unusual.

Have now put in the motors and the rudder servo.

Have also put in some deck supports and bulkheads.

Have found with Deans kits that it is best to cut out the openings in the deck and to sort out the coamings before fixing the deck supports and internals to make sure you get the deck supports in the right place and make sure they don't obstruct anything.

I have already constructed the bottom of the superstructure to make sure it fits before cutting out the decks.

I have also put a strip of lead down the centre of the keel to act as ballast fixed with silicone.

Have now connected up the electrics and tested them and they work OK.

Fixed the deck and filled where necessary.

I have now started on the superstructure.

For those of you who have never done a Deans kit before, always check that every thing fits before you glue anything.
Always assume that every part will need trimming for it to fit.

The hull has now been painted and when the paint has cured the portholes can be epoxied. Really looking forward to that.

For all its faults I am enjoying this build as it makes me think.

hey Dick, I might be down your way mid August, as I am going to Lepe Beach, If you fancy tagging along I can take you down for a couple of hours as you are on my way down there!! PS It's just me no one else!!! My Dad's annerversary!

Thought I'd better update this.

I have been doing the superstructure though none of it is fixed or cleaned up.

There is a lot of 0.5mm brass wire involved and some awkward soldering.

Detailing is awkward as the photos in the instruction book are very fuzzy, so I am having to trawl the net for photos.

Having said that I am really enjoying doing this kit as it keeps the old brain working.

They seem to take forever.

Its easy, retire from work due to ill health [ Emphysema is a good one] and you can be like me, have loads of time on your hands for boat building.
