Which ESC for Speedline's Severn ?
« on: May 02, 2007, 06:15:18 pm »

Here's a good one for you all - should get a good debate going !!!!

I've started building Speedline's Severn Lifeboat and setting up the motors suggested by them i.e. 4 x MFA Torpedo 850's belt driven using MFA belts, bearings, shafts, pulleys exactly as recommended. Don't see the sense in changing the spec as they must have spent alot of research, time and money to find a solution to make the recommendation.

The whole build is not exactly cheap but hopefully the final result will be impressive and well worth the effort.

So having spent a fortune got everything looking good and the big day arrives for its for its maiden sail. So you put your pride and joy on the water move the stick forward to move off and then panic !!!! either the ESC's start  smoking or it creeps like a snail .  Anyone been there  - done that !!!!

So having taken out a second mortgage to fund the project I don't want to waste money by fitting the wrong ESC. ( Finance Manager would not be too pleased !!!!)  So do you chose Electronize or M'Tronics or A.N.Other and even then which version ?????.

Any advice suggestions most welcome .

Paul

The best person to ask is Phil Locke (17-21 on here) he has a website about his build of a speedline Severn.http://www.philsrcmodels.co.uk But he has just changed his motors as the 4 X 850 setup was not giving scale speed but his new ones do. A friend of mine has a 1/12 Severn not a speedline but the same size take a look here http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/severn.htm

Hi Johno  I'm down in sunny Essex !!!! - hope to go to Beale Park at the weekend so may catch up with Phil and see some Severn owners then.

I'm getting the impression that it may come down to personal preference for a particular make of ESC rather than one that is ideal for the job - I have no preference just seeking  advice  as it is the first time that I've used 4 motors and trying not to make an expensive mistake.

Thanks for the responses so far lads - keep them comming.
