Waterslide transfers/ decals
« on: January 18, 2007, 10:35:34 pm »

A couple of years ago there was an article in one of the model boat magazines about water slide transfers you make your self on a PC, does any body know where this is available from, I have had quotes of £25.00 plus for the 'CLYDE MARINE SERVICES LTD TEL' in the attached photo using vinyl lettering, so need to find a cheaper alternative.

Hi Andywright
I use Excel or Word to make decals. You need some Inkjet decal paper and some Microscale Liquid Decal Film. You can print any words in any colour except white. You can paste and resize graphics from photos or websites. Do test prints first to get the size right.

Jusr to add to the knowledge database:

I have used Jetcal with no problems:

http://mediadepot.mtechdirect.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fmediadepot%2emtechdirect%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fsearch%2ehtml&WD=jetcal&PN=Slide_Off_Decal_Transfer_Films%2ehtml%23aJC001#aJC001

which doesn't need any additional special liquids. Water based varnish renders the uncoloured areas white whereas, solvent based varnish renders the uncovered areas tranparent.

Hobby's sell a product called decal-it which claims to turn ordinary paper into a decal. I haven't tried this.

They also sell Decal paper in clear and white background.  I haven't tried this either

Hi,
I have used this site and was ok.

Ian

http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/clear%20water-slip%20decals.htm

This company does tow colurs white an transparent paper.

NB they do two types of paper. Inkjet and laser jet.
the inkjet paper will need to be covered with laquer after printing and before outting in water to slide off as inkjet ink is not waterproof.
The laser jet inks are waterproof so n need to pre laquer

Thanks for the replies, I have got some slide transfer paper but not used it yet.
However I have to recommend a person who replied to my queries, he supplied my 'sign writing' in very quick time and to exact measurements, and VERY economically, I highly recommend http://www.modellettering.com/
Nothing seems to be to much trouble. I will post pictures shaortly in My builds and the Tugs topic area.
