Who is NQD?

One wag was quoted as saying NQD=Not Quite Dead  {:-{ but just who are they?
NQD boats are sold by Howes and others but does anyone about them (NQD that is)??

I have an NQD Jetboat, its a cheap rip off of a Graupner design, I  modified it quite a bit, changed to brushless, and ditched the none proportional electrics, the stock set up is very much "toys r us" quality

The "ship qenus" link on the side takes one to the RC boats - Lord only knows what "qenus" is supposed to mean...

It was probably invented by the same bloke who dreams up car names e.g. Meriva, Zafira, Mondeo. Having said that, though, the oriental take on "Stallion" wasn't a great success. Rumour has it that the Mitsubishi directors wanted to call their new sports car after a powerful horse but, of course, the Japanese aren't too good at pronouncing their L's....... By the time they had realised their mistake they'd already tooled up and launched the fantastic 'Starion'  :embarrassed:

It was one of the NQD Rc Boats that started me off in model boats

NQD, as said before are Chinese mass producers of cheap boats.....I have owned several and have just ordered another, as they come they are pretty toyish but...when converted to normal radio control with a decent motor they are great!

Mitsubishi make a 4 x 4 called the Pajero, right? In Spain the model is called the Montero.....why? Look it up in a Spanish dictionary  :-)) {-) {-) Starts with a W and ends with er. Nobody in Spain would be see driving an English version as all the Spanish point and laugh out loud when one drives past... :}

(Sorry if this is drifting a bit off topic, but it's amusing!)
Toyota didn't have many French customers for their MR2 for similar reasons. Pronounced as "Em Air Duh" it sounds like "merde".............look it up in a French dictionary, chaps  :embarrassed: For much the same translation screw-up Rolls Royce were dissuaded by their German agents from using "Silver Mist"  :o
And just where on earth did 'Avensis', 'Yaris' and 'Auris' come from? Our local Toy service manager refers to them (privately) as Dennis, Iris and Doris!
Then there's the VW 'Sharan' - very popular in Essex, I gather  %)
Does anyone know of any more such clangers?

The Toyota MR2 never sold well in France - after all who would want to drive around in a Toyota Crappy?

GEC-Plessey. The Telecoms bunch were trained how to pronounce the company initials  (GPT) in french announcing to the world they had just farted.

  The first Brabham customer car was called an MRD - for Motor Racing Developments. Brabham and Tauranac soon changed the name for precisely the same reason.

There was a guy at my secondary school, a couple of years behind me, whose name was Wayne Kerr... His parents should have been shot.

At least HazMat got an answer before his thread got thoroughly hijacked :)

Apparent the Automatic Telephone company had an office in Staines, they answered the phone as "ATE Staines",
then Plessey bought the company ........"PLessey Staines"..
then Seimens bought the company..........................."Seimens Staines"

The computer company Wang Laboratories, which was at it's peak in the 1980's, had a set protocol for switchboard telephone answering at it 's many offices worldwide.

This consisted of the company name and the offcie location, e..g 'Good morning Wang Los Angeles' or 'Good morning Wang Paris'.

Then they opened a new office in Cologne . . . . .
