Traditonal Keil Kraft style cabin cruiser kit
« on: July 26, 2010, 05:11:48 pm »

A friend of mine wants to build his first model boat and he is looking for a cabin cruiser. The sort of thing he built as a kid

The only kit I can find that looks a bit like the Keil Kraft style of kits is the Aerokit Sea Queen.... but it's a bit big at 46"  http://www.jotika-ltd.com/Pages/1024768/Aerokit_Front.htm

Anybody got any other suggestions.. it must be a kit  about 30"-36" long

The comments about modifying a scale model (e.g. moving the transom back) are somewhat dubious, and I wouldn't go along with the advice about a Graupner 400 motor being suitable, either.  :o
'T was a reasonable kit until they changed it over to use die-cut lite-ply parts.
Shame.

There seems to be a obsession with using Lite ply nowadays...nasty stuff IMO

Not necessarily. If you know how to use it (and, more importantly, where to use it) then it is a versatile, durable and easily-worked material. For example, my little Swordsman is made almost entirely of the stuff and is much the better for it, as marine ply would have been too heavy. However, the Huntsman bulkheads and keel were designed to be bandsawn from WBP marine-grade ply and to laminate them from lite-ply was a huge error of judgement - even if it made manufacture easier. It also made my original plans and assembly drawings redundant, which was a double whammy because the revised "instructions" were dreadful!

well if your not into those craft then probably this one might be the one.

http://www.aero-naut.de/en/products/boats/ship-models/private-boats/queen-sports-yacht.html

i am slowly running out of sujestions... might be a better idea just to type into google "model motor yachts" and then see which one he likes

when it comes to quality of kits, one could nearly fault every manufacture of the world, i then ask myself, are the manufactures of the world producing not so good kits, or is the Modeler himself at fault, that the person can not put the parts as sujested together correctly..!!

i'll leave that comment open to your imagination....
