I've got an old Uniross Ni-cd charger.
Can I use it to charge Ni-mh batteries (I tried, and they seem OK), but I've heard that Ni-mh need their own type of charger?

Nope, they both charge in the same way

I also was under that impression but for the life of me I cannot remember where I picked it up. Maybe it is Nimh chargers don't charge Nicads ? Again cannot see why not...or could it be a ploy to get at your pocket money    Any knowledgeable people out there ?
Sorry Andyn no slight intended I'm sure you are knowledgeable and no matter what I say now holes being dug deeper comes to mind !

Just look at the spec for Maplins or other suppliers
NiCad,NiMh and Hybrid can all be charged using the same
charger. Only charging times are different

Thank you, interesting production is banned as Ni cads are alive and well in Oz.
However that doesn't mean they aren't being "dumped" here.
Most if not all "solar" items contain Ni Cads as opposed to NiMh, no doubt because they are sourced from China.
Therefore they are still a viable option here.
