WWII 137' British Yard Minesweeper
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:32:52 pm »

Hi Guys'

I have got it in my mind that there was a variation of the above, called a Yard Subchaser ?

This involved removal of the winch on the rear deck. In its place was a 40mm bofors and depth charges including a Y tube.

Is this a figment of my imagination? Any help guiding me in the right direction for information would be much appreciated.

Regards

no it isn't a figment of your imagination

you are correct sirmar used to do it

My friend built one using a calypso hull in 1:32 (which was a minesweeper converted)

Thanks,

Glad to know I'm not going daft (though some might disagree) !

With the demise of Sirmar I now need to find details ???

I think the original yard minesweepers were designated YMS-####
where as the subchaser variant were PCS-####

here is some info about themhttp://www.navsource.org/archives/12/07idx.htm

Thanks Gingyer,

Some excellent reference photos there.

Since found that John Lambert does a plan of the BYMS.

Looking good for a future project
