What is It ? recent e bay purchase
« on: August 16, 2010, 08:01:38 pm »

Just purchased this from E bay, Thought it was a Commodore from Precision models, but it has got a plywood hull ? The commodore had a glassfibre one ( according to there advert) It is about 37inches long and about 8 inches wide. Got some very nice period brass fittings, it is  missing few parts but not really a problem. Any ideas ? Cheers John

Hi, John.

Your boat is the M.S. Dolphin.  Kitted by the Model Shop,  Newcastle on Tyne.  Mid 1950's into the 1960's if I remember correctly.
They also kitted a smaller, and much simpler model, also called Dolphin at a later date.  These were designed by T.R.Kennedy who did
most of the design work on the company's other kits of boats, ships and flying model aircraft.

Your Dolphin is missing it's dinghy and maybe it's windscreen. Can't tell from the photo. How do I know all this. ?  I used to help produce these kits, and others, when I worked at the Model Shop not long after leaving school.  I must be an old teenager now. :o

I have a set of plans for Dolphin which the Shop reissued a few years ago before closing down. If you need any further info just shout.

Thanks Alan
Thats a great help. Going to and remake the dingy, and missing parts, window etc. Its also got a nice little old electric motor in it. It doesn't look like its ever been on the water, very clean. Well worth driving around the M25 for most of the day, (terrible traffic Saturday !)  Cheers  John

PM sent John.  :-))    Should have said above that it was only the plans that were reissued, not the kit.
