prop size?
« on: September 01, 2010, 05:32:10 pm »

Am cobbling together a light 24" balsa speedboat, using a mabuchi motor from a car the lad left in the shed about 10 years ago - I think it's a 540 - case is 50mm long and about 35mm dia. Will run off the original car 7.2v Nicad which still seems to hold a charge. I have a 35x 2-blade prop - will this do or would another size be better? And, should I watercool? I'm about to build the shaft/shaft bracket/rudder tube mount assembly so need to consider these things. This is an in-between project while I work out which sailing boat to rebuild first.

It should all be fine together.  Maybe not the ultimate, but no problems.  It should only need water cooling if you make a REALLY tight shaft. (See  http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=21801.0 )
