Le Lechalas
« on: September 10, 2010, 09:14:05 pm »

Hello!
Just to show you this boat ( from after war) that was built  for civil works engineers  working in inspecting the canal from Nantes in France.Originally on steam, she has been fitted w/ diesel engine later on. The boat has been given to an association that stores it! Sailing from time to time though!
Today was good day for sailing,so...
First = iside. But I'll change the engine PM Research (too big) for an oscillating Stuart . Regner Boiler/ double burner.  Gas regulator Anton. Gas tank regner. Propelle : Raboech 70mm.

Great looking model did you build it from the original plans or is it a kit that you modified? Why do you need to change the PM engine? I have put one in a boat for a friend and another friend also has one and both seem to go very well with 70mm props. The engine is very easy to control and runs well on just a little throttle so I was surprised that you need to change it. Cheers, Ian.

Good evening Kiwimodeller!
This boat is made out of a plan founded in a revue "Chasse Marré" 's middle page & enlarged up to +/- 125cm.
The only reason why I pulled out the PM is because it has a lot more power (9.3cc) that I need for this model. ok2
I replaced it w/ the Stuart oscillating (4cc?).See the shape of the hull= I do not need  power to go ahead.

I moved the PM in my Boston Typhoon which is twice more heavier. I have plenty power there too but it is more appropriate.
Like you I find this engine very reliable and running very good w/ no leak. Running slow with a wisper or  full blast, it never fails. On top of it the price is very friendly.  :-))
Regards

I agree, the PM V Twin is very good value for the money. Since I bought my one two of my friends have asked me to get one for them. Mine ran very well but since I tried the trick that was posted earlier (from Nick Monahan I think) of mixing some graphite powder with the steam oil in the lubricator it is even better, it will run almost at an idle speed and if I stop it will start straight away once I give it just a little throttle. You do not have to put the Graphite in every time, just occaisionally. Cheers, Ian.

Good evening!
You are right Kiwimodeler! I've seen a post where N.Monahan recommands to use 25% graphite in the oil. I'll do that , at least for the break in. :-))
Cheers.

Hello!
Today was a nice day!  :-) First sun burns near the water.
I took this oportunity to sail may Lechalas. I change the motor for an oscillating Stewart. The boiler Regner is good.
min to achieve 1.8 bar. 20 min autonomy. no problem = boring! ok2
Regards! ok2

Is it a good idea to add Graphite during running in? During the running in period the working surfaces are
attaining there final better fit. Addiing Graphite at this stage will slow down this period . The reverse of
what you want. Yes use graphite but not to run in. John.
