I've had one of these four stroke air cooled engines kicking around for a few years looking for a home and as winter approaches I'm thinking nows the time to build something suitable (no scale stuff here !).
So this is a post asking for your opinion / suggestions. It obviously has to be fairly large to cope with the weight and size (3.5 Kg without the clutch housing) also fairly basic, it's not a racing engine, more suited to a tug or cabin cruiser / fishing boat type of craft ( perhaps a narrow boat). I've thought about a large springer style but I guess that would be frowned upon, obviously no reverse so a kitchen rudder seems my best option  that way I can ditch the centrifugal clutch and save a bit of space.
A commercial glass hull would be nice due to limited build area ( see "untidy workspace" thread ).
I spent a bit of time on the models by design stand at the hop farm, the Cygnus revenge looked a possible candidate but I decided the engine would look far too out of place in an open style vessel.
So a fairly large F/Glass hull (if poss.), simple design, large cabin / wheelhouse to hide the engine and of course single prop.

Any Ideas? (Still think it's got to be a big springer)

Hi Dicky,
There's a nice quiet little stretch of Queenborough docks with obviously no restrictions, saltwater, not particularly tidal  although a bit smelly at times !.

you could always rig up a variable nozzle system, could easily be rigged up to a heavy duty servo to open and close it and it could also be used to assist steering.

Have you checked the Models By Design large TID Tug.
That will take the engine but nor sure of the rev range for a prop.

Drkomen86, I've not seen that variable nozzle before - I'll look into it - thanks !.

Shipmate60, That's one nice big tug, very, very tempting, might have to wait until after Christmas before I could smuggle that in though - thanks also.

to be honest I have never seen one fitted to a model but I have seen the fitted to jet skies an planes such as Concorde.

In theory there is no reason why it shouldn't work an it should work well, also it means you could make the prop into a sort of jet unit giving you better performance.

hope this helps
