URGENT GRAUPNER JET UNIT INFO/PICTURE REQUEST
« on: October 15, 2010, 11:59:36 am »

Hi folks,

Before I commit some hard-earned £18 or so on a spare part, can anyone who has bought or seen in the flesh a Graupner Jet Unit 5 tell me if the guide vane/flow straightener part comes as part of the tapering jet part which exits from the transom, or is it merely the internal guide vane/flow straightener which I would get? Better still, if anyone could post a pic or 2 or could sell me the tapering jet part or a complete working unit at a OK price I would be very grateful/interested...meanwhile back to my kinda day job of designing and building The 8-Foot Trimaran!

Thanks ye merry folk of Mayhem,

Andy

Hi arrow5,

She's an 8 foot long stabilised monohull really, main hull is 2438mm longx240mm wide, each float is 1100x80mm, she is 780mm maximum beam over the wing-like structure which attaches the floats to the main hull...imagine Earthrace meets SR-61 Blackbird spyplane in appearance...am still finalsing the detailed design then will build the wooden pattern for professional vacforming in jet black shiny ABS..design operational displacement will be 25.0 - 27.5kg so not passenger carrying i'm afraid but I have the facility to scale up the design and build 12 or 16 feet long for anyone interested...if enough people are interested I will produce the 8-footer with a waterjet propulsion unit moulded into the hull inclusive in the price, ready for the powerplant of choice...hope this answers your question old chap, the whole thing is a bit futuristic and a leap in faith as I gave up a good job in the nuclear industry to pursue her design, development and production, fortunately my remaining sanity exceeds my remaining funds :embarrassed:!

Thanks fellow mayhemer(s),

Andy
