Mick,
A club member some years ago built a boiler to the design of Major Arnott, featured in Model Boats
This boiler could be used as a vertical boiler or then change the fittings around to make it a horizontal one fired by L.P.G. with a plumbers blow lamp as a burner.
By memory the boiler was 3" dia x 5" long, center flue with about 6 cross flues, it was his first boiler and I passed it first time.
The boat was a launch type about 5 ft long narrow and slippy.
With the 10V engine and a very large 4 blade prop he could get about 30-- 40 min run on 1- fill, can't remember size of prop but about 4" dia + ran at 25 psi.
and gave a very creditable performance similar to a full size Lake Launch, so tell him to go ahead and try it in a launch hull and if a longer run is required fit a boiler feed pump.
My only thoughts are that the engine will be taller than the boiler and might look odd other than that I see no problem and if that is the only boiler that he has , go for it.
Remember to tell him it's not self starting !!!!!!!
George.
