look in the race and powerboat section
pipedream, and spirit of the south to name just 2.

as for asking £950 for a incomplete boat, that was the daft thing.
and now to find out it was not secondhand but third makes it even worse.


But lets take it to another topic and leave this guys thread alone .


This guys work is to be truly admired

Yes, back to the builds. All 3 Clydes are looking great. Looking forward to the Loch Ness run, hoping we raise loads for the RNLI. The run is mentioned in April Model Boats magazine on page 7. Keep the pictures coming. Dave. :)

After you pm to me phill......i suddenlt realise that you just haven't a clue about the value of models, the value of work that goes into them or the concept of passing on good work to others for a decent reasonable price.....................sorry but you really have no argument.

just to get back on track with big lifeboat builds, I hope mike doesn't mind me adding a couple of photos of the 70 -002 Grace Patterson Ritchie, nearing completion and had all her wheelhouse top paraphanalia dry fitted last night prior to painting and gluing.


Have even added the ships bell to the fore companionway.....anyone know a good engraver who can engrave RNLI onto it, lol

Nice comment Neil. I was one person interested in the Tamar,and I thought it was quite a bargain.Didnt get a chance to bid tho, and someone DID get a bargain,finished or not,the work that had been done on it already was 1st class quality. Good luck with the Clyde Mike,if you make another, you can put one foot in each,and transport them that way!

Don't pick on him today Neil, he's got ...... how shall I put it .......  fluids coming out of both ends at the same time at the moment so I think he's staying out of his shed otherwise there will be more than a layer of dust on everything %%

Hi Neil,

Are you sure about the current draw on your motors. We are looking at a boat that will have a weight of about 47Kg and a scale speed of 3 knots and your not going to get that with 18-20 watts of power at the props. I did a few calculations and I recon you need something like 56-60 watts at the props and that would mean your current draw would be 3-3.5 amps per motor. You also need to take into account the performance of SLA batteries that from my experience only give about 3/4 of there stated amp/hours.

From this I would say that what Mike has in his setup should just about be enough. The batteries should de able to deliver about 55 amp/hours and that divided by a 7 amp/hour for the motors should give a running time of 8 hours and a distance of 24 nautical miles (28 Miles)  :-)

i have in fact 13 x 7a/hr, 1 x 24 a/hour and two sets of D cells both giving me 20amps in total......hopefully this should be able to do the job with a little in spare..........if not i'll tow the thing in for the last mile or so, lol

Totally agree Neil but I wouldn't bother wasting any more breath on him.    I must admit time is slipping away fast and I need to put some time in on my Clyde, lagging behind you and Mike now, as you know my dad as just had another heart attack and I didn't dare leave the confines of my toilet these past few days!  Hopefully I can crack on at the weekend... :-))

 Just a warning to you three with your Clyde Lifeboats on Loch Ness. Just been watching a film on the Telly, called the Beast under Loch Ness....... be very worried....it is a nasty piece of work if it takes a fancy to you !

003 is ready to go, apart from a few minor fittings.  Not fully happy with the result but no time to rip it all apart and start again.

Back to the Trent and the next new build, a Solent.  ;)

The Clyde is in the trest tank for its 6 hour test run to check the calculations are correct and it will be able to make the distance on Loch Ness on the 2nd July.


In this video clip she has been running for about 90 mins and still going strong.

Took the Clyde out of the test tank at 8:30 pm after a continuous full throttle run of SEVEN HOURS 8).

The motors were running at the same revs as they were when the test started at 1:30 pm, the tension in the restraining ropes was the same, as was the prop wash and the battery packs all still showed 12 volts.
The usual water weeping from the shafts measured about 250 cc so won't be a problem in a hull of this size.

So the practice confirms the theory  :-))

Next stop Loch Ness !!!!!!!!!!!
