Years ago they would use a Paravane to snag boats , some worked well and others errrrrrrrrrrr not so.

If you build the right they will sail at 90 deg to your boat , take a bit of setting up in the first place but worth it,

Some pics stolen from RCGroups.com who have a similar thread going on at the moment.   Make sure you have capacitor/suppressor on motor and route aerial well away from motor and ESC(get a waterproof one). I use a watercooling coil round the motor, not essential but recommended, easy to fit, cheap.

Not so much rescue boat but for the laying of markers, we have a great way of doing this at our club as we are not allowed to leave them out.

Rather than 2 people having to get either the row boat or inflatable out to lay them and then get them back, we use a r/c tug towing a dumb barge with superstructure carved from polystyrene.  Into the dumb barge we place the marker bouy which is attached to a reel of rope suitably weighted.  Off goes the tug to the required place - a quick tug on the rope and the marker is where you want it. Load up the next and so on.  After laying all the reels are placed under something like a plastic milk crate and wound in after the days sailing.

So easy and a one man operation.  No problems with fouling from the cable either as we race IOM's and Marbleheads without problem.
