Deans Marine seaplane tender with 2 motors
« on: November 09, 2010, 03:19:11 pm »

I have messaged Deans Marine and asked about the kit, but the say they cannot recommend the use of twin motors as they haven't tested it. Has anyone built one and fitted twin motors? how difficult is the conversion? and I know there are plenty of people on here running twin screw boats, so is there any advice or tips they can give.
Many thanks

I have built the very similar in size and construction fire boat from them (well just the hull ) with twin screws and did a blog on the fireboat web site, I put two small as I thought and it was completely overpowered, I have since put a pair of 380s in and a single speed controller.

This is me trying to navigate Deans Very small pool with something that was overpower and on tickover  was still to fast, Thanks to Martin for the Video

Ill post a few pictures of it

Thanks for your reply.
Interesting to see what you said about using 2 escs and them not being balanced, I was thinking about using 2 so I could chuck the boat about like I did the real thing, I motor forward 1 reverse to do tight turns etc,
was that a deans marine hull you used? as your right it does look a tight fit, maybe I need to look into building at a larger scale.
But your reply has given me plenty to think about before I start to work on it :) saving time and money.

if you use brushed motors there will be no problem or if you want to use brushless a pair of castle creations ones will not give any problems but they are expensive, Ive got a pair for my larger boat, yes twin motors are great with twin controle.

Oh if possible look for a slightly bigger boat it is just a bit to small for the weight of twin controllers  and batteries motors etc I used a micro 2.4ghz receiver to keep weight down and also built my own superstructure to keep weight down

Thanks I have just found a very small set of plans that were given to me when I had the full sized boat, they are about 4 inches long and 2 inches high, but I am sure I might be able to re draw them to a suitable scale (if I can remember my technical drawing classes from 25 years ago  {-) )

yes I have quite a few boats that have twin props with separate controls, with contra rotating props. gives much better control, with turning for instance. (just trying to boost my posts up to the required 25 ) so hope you find this useful.
