thank you for the link jack , ive sorted the turret rotation , its now driven through a mini servo circiut board , were off to pick up a couple of micro switches in the morning to activate the barrel and main gun firing ( its got the bb kit fitted ) ive wired the smoke unit via a seperate slide switch , and kevin has just ordered an engine sound unit from action ! jon

Your welcome Jon, my tanks are the bb firing ones, just a bit of fun as for the smoker ( the standard heng long one ) a lot of people me included take them out because they are a drain on the battery and it's hit and miss if they work properly, overfilling is the bigest problem
regards Jack.

ive left the firing kit alone , just removed the plugs that would have paired it to the old rx18 , with a pair of micro switches operated with a micro servo and operated through one of the standard stick channels , one half will operated the firing motor the other will make the barrel lift , ive heard the original smoker is proverbially crud , its currently wired with an isolator switch , when it gives up we will look at changing it for somthing better . jon

at the moment weve not got the gun fire sound card , all of the heng long electronics are waiting to find a new home ( probably in dusty bin ! ) ive spent much of this last week rebiulding with decent reliable electronics and 2.4ghz radio !

Hi everyone, what sort of pulling power do these R/C tanks of yours have?
I'm considering buying one and then removing the turret and replacing it with some form of scratch built cabin and turning the whole thing into some form of tracked vehicle capable of towing my r/c boat along on a trailer of some form.

The boat is 1 metre in length and with batteries weighs about 10lb.
The whole rig would be more for show and occasional use rather than being used everytime I sail the boat.

Many thanks

sounds interesting chris , think id rather start with a rolling hull with motors/ gearboxes and tracks rather than buying a complete tank and throwing half of it away . a point worth noting is the heng long ones fit the battery underneath which may be a problem if your planing to cradle launch your model boat !

Thanks for the headsup re the battery location triumphjon. I had been looking at a jagdpanther - the one without a revolving turret - this afternoon on ebay. If I took the barrel off, with a minimum of scratchbuilding I would have a cabin of sorts because it's already part of the design of the tank.

One thing I did notice on ebay was the vast number of spare parts for sales, are these 1/16 scale rc tanks really that unreliable?

The only thing I ever found unreliable was the henlong smoke systems I've had 4 and none have worked , have you thought about getting a rtr RC truck buggy you can replace the tyres with tracks

Do you still have them? reason I ask is there's a common fault with them that's easily fixed with a soldering iron

I never knew you could do that  :-)  I'll research some more before I commit myself to a final design. Ta

its not going to be an easy conversion to alter a truck/ buggy into a tracked vehicle , youd be better off starting with a tank or track laying vehicle , this will at least give you the twin motor / gearbox units along with a set of tracks , ive noticed a trader on ebay who uses the name tankforce1 who has several lower hulls and running gear for sale that dont cost too much , this could be a good starting point . id also look at altering the hull to fit the battery inside the hull rather than in a box below the hull !

If you open up the oil burner box you will see the the heating wire, check that the wire is properly soldered to the board at both ends
