Small diameter prop shafts.......
« on: February 12, 2007, 01:03:31 am »

I'm about to make a start on a few small scale models and i've run into a problem. I can find plenty of 4BA shafts but I need 6" overall length by 2mm with a 12mm prop ( need LH & RH ) and can't find anyone that makes them that small.

I'd get away with 3mm diameter if I had to but 2mm would be better ( got a 1/350th KGV , 1/400th Kiev Carrier & 4 small scale trawlers I need shafts for ) so if anyone can lead me to a supplier i'd be very very gratefull.

I can't remember the name of the guy and I am away from home for a few more weeks but I got mine from the same guy that supplied the bits for the 1/72nd Revel U-boat conversion in Model Boats Mag in March '05.

He will make whatever length you want so I used 12" x 2mm shafts in 10" x 4mm tubes for my u-boat.

If you can't get hold of a copy of the magazine I am sure someone here will know him.

Prop shop do 12,5 mm left and right hand props.and MAY do shafts they have in the past supplied shafts for all there props, but things may have changedthey are priced at  £3 .50 each. according to there site, I think they are still the best props, but some say a bit slow.I must have been lucky ,as Ive had about 20 or so props without problems.Peter

Davie, my local dealer has fine-balanced propshafts in 2mm, up to 200mm length.

or go to:

Hope this was out of any help.

Have a look on

http://www.towboatjoe.com/

and follow the tab to "shafts".

As a modeller, you can make these items as well as buying.

Can't you use servo linkage rods, with tubes/bushes from KS metal centre tubes? One end will be threaded and you could get a collet to fit the other.
