{:-{hi everyone my first post on the forum,i got the bug after bying two old model boat mags from a market stall ,my first build was a tugboat from plans in glyn guests small r /c model boats . my next model was somewot different . i purchested a damaged display model yatch from t. k. max ,i removed all the top hamper and reshaped the hull to represent a cutter ,my main reason for this was to rig the boat as a ninteen century trading cutter , i left the sails off as i prefer static models with rigging only ,that said ! all the running riggings in place in case i change my mind .back to glyn guest , ive just completed my third model a small trawler. my next build was to be a kit ,i had my eye on a nice size trawler but someone not to far away is not so happy ,my fleet as i call them are starting to take over i need to get on the water .  i must admit i find r /c rather daunting ,some of you guys out there realy know your trade so i know where to com for advise ,so... ive decided to brake open the piggy bank  and take the plunge ,the kit will after wait rather sink a homemade boat :   on a more serious note i had desided on the planet t 5 transmitter ,sounds just the job for a novis. but when i rang a model shop in n /yorks i was informed they had removed the t 5 from the shelf as there was a serious problem with them .  i rang another shop in w/yorks who where happy to sell me the t 5 i informed them what the shorp in n /yorks hade told me about the t 5 i was told they could not coment on another suppliers policys, rightly so i suppose. but given the glowing report of the t 5 it does seem worrying . ive serched the forum for more imformation but unable to find any :   sorry to end my first post on such a sour note but it does seem strange.  p s excuse my grammer. new to p /c as well .      old hat.

Well I can only speak from experience, I have had a T5 for just on a year, in both a RC fast Sport boat and my Freya, a big Ketch. Works a treat in both, it has about 120 yards or more over water, I for one cannot see a boat well enough farther away  than that, so I am well happy! :-)) Quite likely that Shop Nr1 had run out of them so hoped you would buy something more pricey! :D

Hi, welcome to the forum for a start,
I am relatively new to the world of RC boats as well, starting out in pretty much the same way as you, saw a MFA Spear at a carboot sale going for what seemed a very cheap price, I am using the T5 and haven't heard of any problems with the exception of 1, and that was in an aircraft and someone trying to fly it out of range. On a boat the range is very good, and unless you are building something on a huge scale you would probably have trouble seeing a smaller boat before you went out of range. (range is around the 100 metre mark I believe).
Some shops as you will notice specialise in a certain area aircraft, cars, trains, boats etc. But this forrum is a good place to get information from.
Enjoy your models :)
