Telephone wire. SOS
« on: August 08, 2012, 01:02:35 pm »

Has anyone about a metre of the old telephone wire which is about half a millimetre in diameter?
The insulation must be white in colour as my intended usage is for piping on wheelhouse cushions.
The current (no pun intended) wire has had the insulation changed to blue and white.
Would be most grateful if anyone can help or suggest a good alternative.
Regards to all.

Have you looked at computer ribbon cables the wires in those are very small and all different colours.  You just need to strip of the flat gray plastic covering.

Internal cable, as used in houses, if 4 wire was blue, orange, green and brown, later changed to blue/white paired with white/blue, then similar with orange, again (in 6-wire/3 pair) with green.  White normally only occurred in larger size cables, paired with a colour.  Probably best to paint it.
Ribbon cable tended to follow the resistance colour code (black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, grey, white) and then repeat if it was wider.

I get most of my wire from computer cables. Try splitting up a printer cable, there is a mass of useable wire in a single cable & it is very good quality too. Mick B.
