Hi all

Whilst rummaging round 2nd hand 'artifacts' place - I uncovered this little ARTIFACT and thought aye, yes, I wonder what model I can make to fit this:       Makes ya wonder where they get the stuff from and I asked the guy where the rest of the ship was - told me to get diving and when I find it let him know

Obviously the Artifact place was a harbour during the great flood. That's what David Attenborough said on TV anyway. I was half asleep at the time ???

its took me ages to drag this oot the garage for the ragnbone man =- all I got was 3 clothes pegs 1 balloon and an owld fish.

Its actually at O'Briens reclamation plant at Boldon if yee nar where that is like! just by the railway crossing ya nar - behind that mushroom farm  :-\

PS I was talking to Ernie at South Shields model boat club 2 weeks ago and he reckons the club you now sale at you have to go in collar and tie and they divvent like homemade yachts and if so when ya coming haem

Can't say I know O'briens, is reclamation plant a posh name for the scrap man ? I suppose you could say that Boldon is more exotic than the Mill Dam !  Did you ever get to Hanratties scrap yard in the old days ?

I can't come haem now 'cos I've gone an bought a posh yacht with not a bit of balsa in sight and had me flat cap surgically removed so it would be such a waste !!

Please give Ernie and the lads at the club my regards. I keep sending him an e-mail now and then but I don't think he switches his machine on !

Tonight, Ive had 2nd thoughts as far as you coming home mate, stay where you are, its still 2 top coats warmer where you are - and I'll bet ya your swans are a lot cleaner on your lake !

When I spoke to Ernie - I did mention this Forum and your email address and he said to me, he has great difficulty switching 'the damned computer on' never mind getting on the internet.   Reading between the lines on what Ernie said, he spends more time building and sailing his yachts - and little time for computer - got more sense that us

Don't know about cleaner, John, certainly less of 'em (at a guess 30/40) Just recently the council put notices up to stop people feeding the damned things as the smaller lake (neh neh ni neh neh -we've got two !) got a foul smelling bloom that turned the water an interesting shade of pink. They have put bales of barley wheat moored all over and it appears to have sorted the pink gunge if nowt else. If only the Shields council would stop people chucking loaf after loaf in the lake it might stop making the place a mecca for every swan on the north east coast and who knows mebbe the tiddlers might come back.

Tynemouth gets another problem...the left over chappatis (is that how you spell it?) from the place over the road. Makes the swan muck "different"!

Hi I'm not going to hijack this thread but read that the council have used bales of barley to remove gunge!
While on the Thames and Medway we put bales of straw into Hessian sacks and then put them in the bilge to soak up the oil which it did but left the water. as the Thames and Medway rivers are restricted waterways OWS cannot be used and it is very expensive to have bilges pumped ashore, the sacks were put into old oil drums and then landed.
