who is racing club 500 in north west, cheshire, etc?
« on: January 08, 2011, 11:48:34 pm »

Hi, just wondering, before I decide which clubs to join, which clubs (if any)  race club 500? I heard a rumour that New Brighton where going to do it from this year, how about Southport, Newsham, Birkenhead, Hoylake, Runcorn, St Helens, Liverpool, Ellesmere Port?

Cant think of any more in that locality, any info appreciated. I tried to send a message on the New Brighton website but it failed, so if any members can confirm if the rumours are correct that would be appreciated,

thanks :-))

Liverpoll MBC don't race 500s but are talking about racing swordsmen.

Dave, I heard rumours that Newsham was the only other Liverpool park to Sefton that was Victorian, and in 2011 was going to get a massive makeover, to restore it to former glory. This included rebuilding the lake which is leaking onto the road, and a cafe. The fish are to be removed, and no fishing allowed. I see there are a number of portacabins opposite, which alledgedly house the architects , dont know if anybody else can shed light on this? so maybe a new lease of life for sailing at Newsham, which is a very nice lake.

I tried to send a message recently on the New Brighton website, as I was told they where to start Club 500, but the message would not work, so if any New B members could confirm this please, as it would influence me and the kids joining a club. I am suprised that either Hoylake or New Brighton dont have a look at club 500, its competitive, cheap, and those lakes are ideal for it, possibly something different that might attract a younger  new audience or give seasoned boaters a different challenge?

Joe, perhaps a class that is already established with other clubs might be more of an attraction? just a thought you might like to share with the Liverpol club, it might start some inter club racing rather than having to build boats that are only going to be specific to one club? :-)) :-))

Db, looks like its you and me with fireboats then club 500 whilst the batteries charge :}
