Welcome to the forum!  I'm sure many others will agree that it's becoming hard to find the more specialist boat items in most local model shops.  I don't necessarily agree with the trend, but it's now almost essential to buy many bits via the internet if we're to ever get any building done. I've used several suppliers in the past - Cornwall Model Boats, Westbourne Model Centre, Jotika, etc. etc. I tend not to favour any one supplier, but to buy from whoever has what I need in stock and at a fair price.  Have fun!

There are numerous ready-made shafts out there... but I prefer to make my own. Stainless precision shafting from an industrial supplier (www.mcmaster.com or www.sdp-si.com in the US), sintered bronze bearings from same, brass tubing from the local hobby, and motor couplings from various hobby suppliers.

Easy to do if you have a vise (not vice, though that shouldn't slow you down), and some dies and a die handle, and a file to put flats on where needed for grub screws.

Hi welcome , prop shafts can be shortend , if the are the type that have the black plastic bearings you can push them out the same goes for most with Fozzy bronze  you shorten the tube and push it back in , the inner shaft can be chopped you can buy couplings with a grub screw to hold the shaft a lot of the shafts are sold in the uk with only one end threaded.

where in AUS  are you

hear is one I did some time ago that may help but is not directly related to what you want but shows what you can do if you need it without special equipment I use the bottom bushes from SHG in the uk they are made from aceteal I think that is how it is spelt but you may be able to get them in letter post so cheap to send to you if you cannot get them locally
