Cheap boat to "play" with
« on: February 23, 2007, 07:05:08 pm »

Hi all,
I'm looking for a cheap rtr or almost RTR boat to get down to my local club with and start getting involved so I am not tempted to rush my puffer build.
Any suggestions??

Keep an eye on Ebay.  I bought a Mountfleet kit and knew it was going to take me a long time so I have since bought a few Ebay boats to keep me at the pond and active while I build the steamer.

All of them were ready for the water but had enough needing to be done to be able to put my own mark on them.

I bought a Graupner Lotse off the Bay last year for about £40 as a quick boat to play with whilst I struggled to find a workspace to start the builds I queued up 6 years ago. Sadly I have had to repaint the hull as it was painted Flanders Blue and the superstructure is badly put together and needs much filling and sanding for the badly cut edges that were hidden under trim tape. I started work on it last week and should be able to sail it by the end of March, current commitments allowing (DIY etc).

Might have been better to have bought a Basic Robbe kit to put together such as the Paula. But I look forward to getting it wet.
