Design features of horizontal condensor/oil trap tank
« on: January 17, 2012, 11:00:55 pm »

Hi Gentlemen and others,  {-)
I noticed that MHB has a horizontal oil trap tank on their new steam plant. In fact it is an oval cylinder instead of round.
Is there any method of engine exhaust pipe entrance that would enable/aid separation like the vertical tank design where the exhaust flow is encouraged to swirl around the cylinder?
Or is that point moot in our model sizes?
I ask because I have a model that would benefit from a horizontal tank placement like MHB's version.
Thanks for any opinions on this.

Reg...I am unsure why MHB would complicate a de-oiler with an oval [squashed] tube & hence oval endcaps %% when standard round pressed endcaps are available

The steam/condensate entry is shown lower than the discharge......you have correctly hinted that turbulence is required to drop the oil from suspension...this can be achieved by internal baffles or swirling the gas/water against the inner diameter of the de-oiler body

If you need a horizontal de-oiler body...there is no reason why the entry port tubing could not be from the OD of the barrel with a high tangential entry point ....Derek

HS93....Peter...the boiler appears to be round..... ie., standard design..... O0 the de-oiler could be installed approx 20 mm in board of the current location with either the Anton 3.1cc Crystal or the MHB PB3 engine

I do understand that design is design & that some will pay extra for something unusual  %% ......Derek

Derek,
As the boiler is round ( cylindrical ) as shown on the link supplied by Reg to MBH web page, what other shape of boilers does MBH  make ?
Have you seen a boiler any other shape than cylindrical ?
George.
