Hi all,
has anyone built Vic Smeeds launch Melinda? I'm trying to find a photo so I can see what it actually looks like. The image in the old plans handbook is so poor I can't really judge whether it's what I want to build next. Any comments or a picture will be very appreciated.

Hi
I have an almost completed model of Melinda that I started about 20 years ago. I have now retired and have been working on it for the last 6 months. Hopefully a photo is attached

Hope that helps

Don, you're a star, that's exactly what I was looking for.
That's a great model you've got there, a real credit to you. I saw the lines for the model in the handbook, and I thought it would be nice, but seeing it properly has made my mind up, I've got to make one. Over the last few years I've made and Edwardian electric launch, and a steam paddle launch, so I was looking for a petrol driven launch of similar era and it has to be that one. Were there any special problems in making it?

    Thanks again,

Don, I've just thought, have you any idea how the exhaust was taken from the engine overboard?

Chas

I can't help with the exhaust outlet, I have seen outlets on the side just on the waterline and at the stern, again on the waterline. The only problems on the build were down to my lack of model boat experience, this was my first boat as I was into model aircraft at the time. The biggest problem is battery location, there is room under the bench seats in the cabin but I may have to make up bespoke battery packs. I have placed a mini servo in the toilet compartment for rudder control and there is room for the receiver as well.  As this is a plank on plank construction it was very time consuming but even for me fairly straight forward. I was my original plan to have a varnished hull but my planking was not up to it so I painted it.
