vintage scratchbuilt schooner
« on: January 29, 2011, 10:21:52 pm »

hello to one and all ...

please believe me when i say i am a total newbie to model boats,

anyways i have a huge old scratchbuilt schooner that i need help with

it is built and has some electrics in it , i think there for running lights , i have powered them up and they all light up

its full of tiny brass shackles and fittings  pullies , blocks , tackles etc

it measures just under 4ft long and just under 5ft high

and is all wod

it needs a little loving care to make it truely BEAUTIFUL but only a little bit of work needed

the problem is its way out of my league

and i wondered if anyone would want to purchase it as a project? or should i keep hold of her ?

im guessing she is worth a bit as i have searched high and low and not found anything like her

anyway . please help me out as to what i should do?
kind regards
Tony

Welcome aboard Tony,

I'm not a schooner man myself, but if you are able to post a picture or two of your vessel, someone is bound to impart their knowledge.  O0

Good luck,

Ray.

Keep it if you don't you'll kick yourself at a later date .... There are books on the rigging of sailing ships if you are only trying to restore her to sailing condition start by taking detailed photos of the hull and rigging (and doing sketches of where things go ) a schooners rigging is fairly simple when you've overhauled the hull  and can start re-rigging her remember these simple rules
1) a mast is the centre of a tripod it has a fore-stay and two back stays  (some masts are built up in sections, each one joined with an overlap to the section below it and each having it's own set of stays these superimposed mast are called top masts.
2) The lines used to haul up the Yards /Gaffs  & booms are called Halyards
If you wish to take on this restoration I may be able to help in some small way with practial advise and working drawings as I'm sure many others will as well.

These are some photos of one of my boats
